Joliet, IL (September 12, 2004)---The results are in for the Delphi Indy 300. Scott Sharp, driver of the No. 8 Delphi entry, worked his way from 13th to as high as seventh during the 200-lap event at Chicagoland Speedway and eventually finished ninth. Adrian Fernandez won today's event while Bryan Herta finished second and Tony Kanaan finished third. There was an extended yellow near the end of the race after contact between the No. 15 and No. 10 cars but the race resumed on lap 194 with a six lap shootout to the end.
Scott Sharp, No. 8 Delphi/Dallara/Toyota/Firestone
"I'm pleased overall with today's result. It was great that at the Delphi event the Delphi car was the most competitive we've been all year. We were really able to mix it up out there although we had to be patient early on because we were really tight and it took us a couple of pit stops to get the car where we wanted it to be. After that we were ready to go racing. We worked our way into the top-ten and at the end there it just never seemed like we never had great re-starts so I would lose a few spots each time and that makes things a little difficult. But we rallied and finished ninth and had four wheels on it so we'll be ready to go racing at Fontana."
*The Delphi Indy 300 was Sharp's 96th career start, his 88th consecutive IRL IndyCar start--an IndyCar record-- and his seventh season with Kelley Racing.
* Chicago Record--In 2003 Sharp started 17th and finished 11th while in 2002, Sharp started 16th and finished 7th and in 2001 he started 3rd and finished 25th after an accident.
*Sharp's victory in April 2003 at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan was his eighth career victory.
