Fernandez Off to a Good Start at Chicagoland

Adrian Fernandez set the ninth fastest time of the day overall in opening practice for Sunday's Delphi Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. Fernandez, who was focusing on race day setup, ended the day 0.2219 seconds off of the fastest time.

Weather: At the start of the first 30-minute practice session, temperatures at 68 F under sunny skies with winds out of the south at five mph; for the afternoon practice session, temperatures at 81 F under sunny skies and little wind.

Adrian Fernandez, #5 Quaker State/Telmex/Tecate Panoz G Force/Honda/Firestone:

"This morning we had a problem with the engine. We are not sure what it is yet, but we didn't do many laps. The IRL let us do some laps in the first practice group this afternoon for the time that we lost. In the afternoon, the car felt fine. We basically worked for the race. I was driving in traffic, and everyone was driving together in a pack. It looks like the race is going to be very tight. I think we need a little bit more speed to be able to get to the front and be able to challenge for a win. In general, the car feels pretty good."
