Fernandez Looking for Repeat Performance
Adrian Fernandez and Fernandez Racing head to Chicagoland Speedway this weekend for the Delphi Indy 300, looking to replicate their last 1.5-mile oval appearance. Just five months after sitting behind the wheel of an IndyCar Series car for the very first time, Fernandez claimed his inaugural Indy Racing League victory at Kentucky Speedway's 1.5-mile circuit. With three races remaining on the 2004 IRL IndyCar® Series calendar and after strong performances in the past four events, Fernandez will be striving for his second trip to Victory Circle this weekend.
* Will be making his first career start at Chicagoland Speedway and his 13th IRL IndyCar Series start
* Claimed his first career IndyCar Series victory at Kentucky Speedway in his 10th IRL start
* Followed Kentucky win with a second-place finish at Pikes Peak three weeks ago
* Has finished eighth or better in eight of 12 IndyCar Series starts
* Best IndyCar Series starting position to date was fourth at Kentucky Speedway
* Currently sits seventh in the championship point standings, two points out of sixth place
Adrian Fernandez, #5 Quaker State/Telmex/Tecate Panoz G Force/Honda/Firestone:
"I am looking forward to the final three races of the season, and I think we will be very strong. As a team, we really turned things around last month and showed that we have reached the next level. We had top-two finishes at both Kentucky and Pikes Peak and, if it weren't for a couple of mistakes -- a spin on pit lane at Michigan and a restart problem at Nazareth -- I really believe we could have walked away with four top-three results. I have never been to Chicagoland Speedway, but we have been very competitive on the 1.5-mile tracks and we have a lot of confidence and momentum going into the race. We also have a lot of friends and fans in the Chicago area that we have not seen in two years, so I am looking forward to this weekend."
