INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 2, 2003) -- Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan sat atop the Indy Racing League (IRL) IndyCar^Ù Series point standings after nine of the first 13 races this season, but never doubted the championship would come down to the final race of the season. Now sitting third in the standings with three races remaining, Kanaan still feels the title is a long way from settled and is hoping he'll be part of the story before it's through.

The first of those final three races comes up Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway and will give Kanaan his first opportunity to chip away at the 32-point margin that separates him from new series leader Helio Castroneves. Kanaan, who has notched eight top-five and 10 top-10 finishes this season, has yet to run a race at the Joliet, Illinois-based facility, but logged more than 200 miles of test laps there last week.

Qualifying for the Delphi Indy 300 at Chicagoland is set for 5:30 p.m. (EDT) Saturday with the 200-lap race slated for 2 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, airing live on ABC.

TONY KANAAN, #11 TEAM 7-ELEVEN DALLARA/HONDA/FIRESTONE:

"I feel good about heading into this weekend. Obviously, it was a tough break for us -- what happened in Nazareth. But, we need to look forward and move forward, so that's what we're looking to do. Hopefully, we can pull a little closer to the people that we're fighting with in the championship and turn our situation around in the next three races."

KIM GREEN, PRESIDENT, ANDRETTI GREEN RACING:

"I feel pretty comfortable that we've got good race setups for this track. I know our engineering department has been working hard, our pit crew has been working hard and Honda has been working hard, so I still feel like we've got a very good chance to win this race and put ourselves back into the middle of the championship. This team has a lot of backbone. It's a team with a lot of experience and I think the experienced guys are the ones that are saying, 'Hey, c'mon, let's not give up,' and are motivating the younger guys who perhaps got a bit down after the Nazareth race. The points system in this series will, I think, take the championship to the last race.

"Funny things happen in motor racing. Maybe that is what we love and hate about it. I don't think anybody has got anything more than motivation to prove that we're as good as any other team out there."
