Franchitti Qualifies Fourth in ArcaEx Car at Chicagoland Speedway
Joliet, Ill. (Sept. 11, 2004) - Dario Franchitti recorded a lap of 213.644 miles per hour (25.6127 seconds) in the #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone during qualifying today at Chicagoland Speedway, which earned him the fourth starting position for Sunday's running of the Indy Racing League IndyCar® Series Delphi Indy 300.
This marks Franchitti's seventh top-five qualifying effort of the season and his fourth in succession. He has two victories to his credit in 2004 and will be looking to give the ArcaEx team its third win during tomorrow's event.
Helio Castroneves earned the pole position for Sunday's race with a speed of 214.759 miles per hour (25.4797 seconds). He will start alongside Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan, who registered a speed of 214.030 miles per hour (25.5665 seconds), Buddy Rice will start third with a speed of 213.843 miles per hour (25.5889 seconds), Franchitti is fourth and Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver Dan Wheldon will start fifth with a speed of 213.130 miles per hour (25.6745 seconds).
The Delphi Indy 300, Round 14 of the 2004 IRL IndyCar® Series, is set to go green at 1:55 p.m. (EDT) Sunday with ABC Sports providing live broadcast coverage of the 200-lap event beginning at 1:30 p.m. (EDT).
Dario Franchitti, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The ArcaEx team did a good job today. The balance of the car was pretty good, we just didn't have enough to earn the pole. The bump on the backstretch wasn't that big of a hindrance; you have to deal with it throughout the race, so it's not that much of a factor."
Kyle Moyer, General Manager, Andretti Green Racing:
"Qualifying went okay. We've slowly been improving the ArcaEx car and it was the quickest lap that we've done by ourselves. We're on the outside of the second row and we'll take that. We're up front where we want to be, and we've got a good race car. All in all, the ArcaEx team looks pretty strong for tomorrow's race."
