Fort Worth, Texas (June 8, 2001) -- Eddie Cheever Jr. continued his strong showing at the Texas Motor Speedway this weekend topping the speed charts in both practice sessions on Friday in preparation for the Casino Magic 500.

Cheever's top speed of 216.421 mph, in the final practice session, was the fastest lap of the event. He was also fastest in the first practice of the day with a 216.247 mph lap. Cheever will start the June 9 Casino Magic 500 in third place in the No. 51 Cheever Indy Racing Infiniti.

Robbie Buhl was equally fast with the No. 24 Team Purex Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Infiniti posting the third fastest speed in the first practice of the day (214.642 mph) and the sixth fastest speed in the final practice (215.395 mph). Buhl qualified eighth for the Casino Magic 500.

The Casino Magic 500 will be televised live on ESPN at 8 p.m. (EDT) June 9. The "Indy Racing 2Day" pre-race show will broadcast at 6 p.m. ESPN2 will televise MBNA Pole qualifying at 12:30 a.m. (EDT) June 9. A live timing and scoring report for the race will be available on the Internet at www.indyracing.com.

Eddie Cheever Jr., No. 51 Cheever Indy Racing Infiniti: "What a stud, huh? We were just working on race balance, trying to see what the car will do with a tow. But no one will play with me. I think if we finish, we will definitely run in the top four or five. The Infiniti 35A engine is showing a strong adolescence. We had a failure in Atlanta and a bad month of May. It's a strong engine, but the hardest thing is reliability. The Ilmor engine has become the engine you have to beat in the IRL."

Robbie Buhl, No. 24 Team Purex Dreyer & Reinbold Racing GForce-Infiniti: "We are real happy with everything. We changed our gear package for the race. In the final session we really didn't have much to do because we changed our engine earlier today. Our race motor seems to be better than the motor we had in prior. The Infiniti guys are doing their homework. We got a good race car. I wish we were racing today. We are ready to go."
