#51 Red Bull-Cheever Infiniti Car First Indy Racing Driver To Test At
Team Is Testing New Talent For Second Car In 2002
Indianapolis (Nov. 23, 2001) - 1998 Indianapolis 500 winner Eddie Cheever Jr. will test his #51 Red Bull-Cheever Infiniti car Nov. 27-28 at California Speedway, learning the secrets of speed about the 2-mile oval and testing drivers Buddy Rice and Jeff Ward for a second Cheever Indy Racing entry in 2002.
Red Bull-Cheever is the first Indy Racing League team to test at the California Speedway, which will play host to its inaugural Indy Racing event March 24, 2002.
"We are now six weeks into the 2002 season and have already had two successful tests at Indy." said Richard Caron, team general manager. "We are really looking forward to testing in Fontana where we understand it is a phenomenal track."
Evaluating the talents of Rice and Ward will be an important part of the test for Red Bull-Cheever. Former Toyota Atlantic champion Rice will test with the team Nov. 27, while 1997 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Ward will test Nov. 28 in the team's Dallara Infiniti.
The testing will be open to the media from noon-5 p.m. (PST) Nov. 28.
The entire field of Indy Racing drivers will travel to the California Speedway on Feb. 5-6 for beginning of the annual Test in the West. A media day Feb. 5 at California Speedway will kick off the five-day event followed by testing Feb. 6 on the 2-mile oval.
A 400-mile Indy Racing League event is scheduled March 24 at California Speedway. The race is scheduled to be televised live on ESPN2. It's the third race on the 15-event 2002 Indy Racing League schedule, highlighted by the 86th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 26.
