Rice completes final test before start of season.

HOMESTEAD, Ariz. (Feb. 18, 2003) - Buddy Rice and the Red Bull Cheever Racing crew completed their final test with the No. 52 Red Bull Dallara-Chevy-Firestone entry before the start of the 2003 IRL IndyCar Series Championship.

The two-day test at the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway marked the end of pre-season testing with the new Dallara-Chevrolet package and the beginning of the team's seventh IndyCar Series season.

Rice completed 283 laps during the test with a fast speed of 202.969 mph (26.6051 seconds.)

"The test went quite well," Buddy said. "We made a big improvement over our last test here at Homestead and a big improvement over the Phoenix test. We are moving in the right direction. We are solid heading into the first race of the season."

Eddie Cheever Jr. was at track for the test as team owner. Planning to drive only at the Indianapolis 500 this year, the Toyota Indy 300 on March 2 will be the first IndyCar Series race that Cheever will not drive since the series' first season in 1996.

"We made a lot of gains in this test," Cheever said. "We spent equal time between qualifying and race setups, so we have a lot of data to review before the race."

The 2003 IRL IndyCar Series kicks off March 2 with the Toyota Indy 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race will be televised live on ABC at 1 p.m. (EST.)

Red Bull Cheever Racing, based in Indianapolis, is the brainchild of 1998 Indy 500 champion Eddie Cheever Jr. A leader in American motorsports, the IRL IndyCar Series team is built on Cheever's experience in Formula One, sports cars and open-wheel oval racing. Corporate and technical partnerships include the world's leading energy drink Red Bull, Menards, Chevrolet, Dallara, Firestone and Menard Cheever Technologies.
