Skip Barber trained drivers Helio Castroneves and Greg Ray secured the poles for their respective races this weekend. Castroneves leads a contingent of Skip Barber alumni at the head of the field for the CART FedEx Series Molson Indy Toronto in downtown Toronto, Canada. Ray continues to dominate the pole position in the 2000 Indy Racing Northern Light Series.

Castroneves earned his pole by setting a lap of 57.200 sec around the 1.721-mile street circuit at Canadian Exhibition Park. After suffering car problems in the morning practice, Castroneves had the problems sorted by afternoon and managed to keep his racecar away from the beckoning walls. Joining him are fellow Skip Barber trained drivers Michael Andretti (3rd), Juan Montoya (4th), and Kenny Brack (7th).

Ray scorched the Atlanta Motor Speedway 1.5-mile oval with a fast lap of 24.988 sec. for an average speed of 216.104 mph in preparation for the Midas 500 Classic. This is his fifth pole of the season. Indeed Ray needed to post only one lap to secure the pole, further stamping his dominance on the qualifying proceedings for this year.

Jeff Ward (4th), Robbie Buhl (8th) and Buzz Caulkins (9th) joined Ray as the other Skip Barber alumni to secure grid positions in the Top-10 for the race under the lights on Saturday evening.
