Red Bull Cheever Racing fastest at California Speedway
Tomas Scheckter and Eddie Cheever Jr., who were first and third fastest in the February Test in the West, continued to dominate at California Speedway today by topping the speed charts in practice for the Yamaha Indy 400.
Scheckter was fastest in the afternoon session turning a 222.130 mph lap in the No. 51T Red Bull Cheever Racing Infiniti, while Cheever was the fastest in the morning session turning a 221.505 mph lap in the No. 51 Red Bull Cheever Racing Infiniti. The Red Bull Cheever Racing teammates ranked first and second fastest of the day.
Tomas Scheckter on Practice:
"We had to change to the t-car for practice today which just shows what an unbelievable job these guys do on the Red Bull Cheever Racing team. The fact that I can jump into the t-car and be quickest is great. I look forward to qualifying tomorrow and hope that we can produce the same results as today."
Eddie Cheever Jr. on Practice:
"The Red Bull Cheever Racing Infiniti went very well today. The engine we had in the car had about 430 miles and we wore it out in practice today. It's a busy day for us. The team is working very well. This is the precursor to Indianapolis. It is important that we do well here. I have been waiting for the racing gods to focus on somebody else. The Red Bull Cheever Racing cars are running very well. Historically, the Infiniti engines have always performed well on the mile-and-a-half ovals. We have picked up where we left off in the Test in the West."
The Yamaha Indy 400 starts at 12:30 (PST) March 24. The race will be televised live on ESPN and by the Indy Racing Radio Network. Practice and qualifying is scheduled for March 23. Live timing and scoring of all on-track activity can be found on www.indyracing.com.
