PHOENIX -- (March 14, 2001) What does a car's clean air filter have in common with clean, smoke-free lungs? Indy Racing Northern Light series driver Billy Boat can tell you this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway when he takes to the one--mile oval track behind the wheel of the #98 "Ask Kicker" Dallara/Oldsmobile/Firestone for the 2001season opener.
The "Ash Kicker" racing team is sponsored by the Arizona Department of Health Services' Tobacco Education and Prevention Program (AzTEPP) as part of an effort to educate youth about the benefits of a tobacco-free lifestyle. Through an interactive program presented by Boat, children learned the importance of discipline, commitment and drive.
"I am very proud and excited to be a part of the Arizona Tobacco Education and Prevention Program. I have talked to almost 10,000 kids about why they should be tobacco-free. The feedback we get from parents and teachers is outstanding," said Boat, a Phoenix native.
"Kicking off the season on my hometown track enables the "Ask Kicker" team to showcase to an audience that has been bombarded by tobacco-related messaging. We have an important message to deliver to our youth."
Susan Heck, marketing manager for AzTEPP believes Boat has been instrumental in furthering the tobacco prevention message in Arizona.
"Billy Boat lives the tobacco-free lifestyle commitment as a person, father, role model and a racing industry leader. The Arizona Department of Health Services' Tobacco Education and Prevention Program is honored to partner with a true home state hero and the IRL in showing Arizona families the success that comes from drive, dedication, commitment and living a tobacco-free life."
Look for the #98 Ash Kicker/CURB Records car on track with Boat behind the wheel on Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18 at Phoenix International Raceway for the Pennzoil Copper World Indy 200. Qualifying to determine the starting grid will take place Saturday at noon. The green flag will drop Sunday at 2:00 p.m. for the 200 -- mile race to the checkered flag. The race will be televised live on ABC.
