Four U.S. Military members will sing the National Anthem prior to the start of the 89th running of the Indianapolis 500. All four branches of the military will be represented with U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Edward "Justin" Allen, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Mark Roberts, U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Remayl Shaffer-Hardy and U.S. Navy Petty Officer (MU3) Sharalee Wirt.

The Red Bull Cheever cars of Patrick Carpentier and Alex Barron will compete in the Indianapolis 500 with sponsorship from IZOD, a leading brand of casual clothing.

ABC Sports will use over 30 cameras during the live broadcast of the race. Television producers are always looking to position cameras to provide viewers with new perspectives on the race. One such camera on Sunday will be placed inside a balloon to be launched along with the thousands of balloons released prior to the start of the race.

As part of the celebration surrounding the 5 0th anniversary of the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AARWBA) Indianapolis mayor Bart Peterson proclaimed May 28 as AARWBA Day in Indianapolis. Letters of recognition were presented during the annual AAWRBA breakfast to president Dusty Brandel from the Indiana Senate and House of Representatives.

The members of the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association announced today that the annual All American Team dinner will be moved to Indianapolis from the west coast. On December 3, one day after the NASCAR banquet in New York, AARWBA will present the Jerry Titus Award to their driver of the year along with the first and second teams in various forms of the sport.

The AARWBA announced today the France family as their "Newsmaker of the Half Century" award. Lesa Kennedy France was present to accept the award. The France and Hulman George families combined to earn nearly 55 percent of the vote from the list of five finalists that included Mario Andretti, Roger Penske and the late Dale Earnhardt.
