The mall behind the main grandstand at Motegi is host to a variety of events including concerts, beauty pagents, performance vehicle exhibits, contests and games and even a bowling alley. Food selections range from every type of Japanses cuisine imaginable to Nathan's hot dogs and pizza. The sights and sounds of the festive atmosphere are enhanced by the aroma of the various food vendors. We are far, far away from the Americrown offerings of tracks owned by ISC.

Firestone delivered 796 Firehawk racing radials to Motegi, allowing each entered car eight sets of tires. Manufactured at Firestone's Technical Center in Akron, Ohio, tires for this weekend are similar to the compound used at last year's Bridgestone Indy Japan 300 with a slightly harder right-side compound and slightly softer left-side compound.

For timing and scoring purposes the Indy Racing League announced the official track distance as 1.52 miles.

The installation of the SAFER barrier at the Twin Ring Motegi marks the first time the soft wall technology has been installed outside of the United States.

The Toyota-powered Panoz of Ryan Briscoe is sporting a new livery this weekend. The red and white paint scheme on Briscoe's car is reversed from his teammates. His chassis is red with white sidepods providing the background for sponsorship from electronics giant Pioneer.

Five rookies are entered in this weekend's event: Ryan Briscoe, Jeff Bucknum, Paul Dana, Tomas Enge and Danica Patrick.

Scott Dixon, who has been competing in a Panoz chassis since the start of the season, will be driving a Dallara chassis at this event.
