Polesitter Buddy Rice is two for three after his Rahal-Letterman Racing crew won the Checker's/Rallys Pit Stop Challenge this afternoon. Rice's crew won last year when Rice was competing with Cheever Racing. Rahal-Letterman Racing, the 13th different team to win the Checkers/Rally's Pit Stop Challenge, received $30,000 of an $80,000 purse. Twelve teams began the competition, in which they had to change four tires and make a simulated make fuel hose connection to the car's fuel cell for a minimum of three seconds after the car came into the pit area.

Final Round: Rahal-Letterman Racing (#15 Rice), 12.3365 def. Marlboro Team Penske (#3 Castroneves), 24.4300 (10-second penalty for running over the air hose.)

Tony George and representatives from ABC TV announced today an extension of their current agreement to broadcast Indy Racing League IndyCar Series events. The new agreement, which runs until 2009, includes comprehensive coverage of the IRL IndyCar Series in addition to the IRL Menards Infiniti Pro Series races and ancillary programming support along with both network's traditional extensive coverage of the Indianapolis 500.

Jaques Lazier has been named as the backup driver for Robby Gordon's Dallara Chevrolet, should Gordon have to leave early to compete in the NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Charlotte. If the weather cooperates, Gordon will compete in both the Indy 500 and Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte, with Lazier working as Gordon's spotter at the Speedway.

Checker's Drive-In Restaurants donated $100,000 to the Cure Autism Now Foundation. Checker's/Rally sponsors the annual pit stop competition at the Speedway.

Patrick Racing announced today that Al Unser Jr's Dallara-Chevrolet will be sponsored by Subway for the 88th running of the Indianapolis 500

Greg Ray's Honda-powered car was rolled out of the Access Motorsports garage this morning sporting a new blue and yellow paint scheme. By the car hit the track, the car had Rent-A-Center on the sidepods. Eufora MasterCard and University Loft Co. join Rent-A-Center in a one-race agreement to sponsor owner/driver Ray.

Charles "Butch" Winkle was presented with the Clint Brawner Mechanical Excellence Award. The Clint Brawner Foundation presents the award annually to the Indianapolis 500 chief mechanic who exemplifies the mechanical and scientific creativity, ingenuity, perseverance, dedication, enthusiasm and expertise of legendary namesake Clint Brawner. The late Brawner was chief mechanic on winning cars in 51 AAA and USAC national championship races, and guided six season champions. Winkle is the chief mechanic for Roth Racing and driver Marty Roth. Tim Neff, who engineered Thiago Medeiros victory in the Freedom 100 Menards Infiniti Pro Series race for Sam Schmidt Racing, is Roth's engineer for the 500.

Panoz G Force chassis earned the top five spots in the final practice for Sunday's Indianapolis 500. Rookie Kosuke Matsuura topped the day's speed charts at 219.226 mph.

Tony Kanaan passed Scott Dixon with one lap to go while the pair were racing the soon to be released Codemasters IndyCar Series 2005 video game for the Xbox system. The latest version of the game, which features 15 different tracks including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Twin Ring Motegi, ships June 22, 2004.

Rupert Boneham, of the Survivor television series, waved the green flag to start practice today. For ten years, Boneham worked at the Speedway for ABC TV. "Last year I was running cables here and down in the manholes, and this year I'm between the track and pit road waving the green flag."
