Notes from the Honda Indy 225 at Pikes Peak International Raceway
All 760 Firestone Firehawk tires delivered for use at this weekend's Honda Indy 225 were produced at the Firestone Technical Center in Akron, Ohio. Each team received seven sets of tires to be used at their discretion through practice, qualifying and the race.
Both of A. J. Foyt's drivers, A.J. Foyt IV and Jaques Lazier will be driving Toyota-powered Dallaras.
Live television coverage of Sunday's Honda Indy 225 will start at 4:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. The Pikes Peak 100 for the Infiniti Pro Series will be televised on ESPN2 at 12:30 p.m. (EDT) on June 28.
At 5,357 feet above sea level, the air at Pikes Peak International Raceway is much thinner than at sea level. Standard atmospheric pressure at sea level is 14.7 pounds per square inch. At this track it's 12 psi. Not only is horsepower is reduced by 16 percent, the thin air effects downforce and is less effective in removing heat from the radiators.
Pursuant to Rules 8.1 and 8.3-A (Improper conduct) of the Indy racing League Rule Book, Tora Takagi has been penalized for "displaying unacceptable driving habits" at Texas Motor Speedway one week ago. Takagi has been put on probation until December 31, 2003. In addition to probation, he loses his 23 driver points and 23 entrant points earned at the Texas race. The penalty stems from a lap 190 incident when Takagi tried to pass Scott Sharp and teammate Felipe Giaffone, sending both into the wall. Takagi recovered to finish third.
