FORT WORTH-DALLAS (May 20, 2004) - Only five drivers have visited Indy Racing League IndyCar Series victory lanes in both 2002 and 2003. Alex Barron, Sam Hornish Jr., Helio Castroneves, Scott Sharp and the retired Gil de Ferran. Barron is hoping the June 12 Bombardier 500k at Texas Motor Speedway extends his win streak to three consecutive seasons.

He's optimistic about his chances for victory in 2004, being the full-time pilot of the Red Bull Cheever Racing Dallara/Chevrolet that includes owner Eddie Cheever and teammate Ed Carpenter. The Californian spent most of 2003 as a fill-in driver, including his Michigan victory run for the Hollywood Mo Nunn Racing team, substituting for the injured Felipe Giaffone.

"There are some things we are improving on," said Barron of the team. "In the off season, Eddie (Cheever) has hired a lot of really good people. From car prep to engineering to motor, everything has really been improving. We seem to be gelling. Cheever Racing has come a long way since the start of the season.

"Texas has a lot of history of close racing with the banking being so tall and it being a state-of-the-art facility. Everybody likes to go there to race. Every year it seems like there is a really close finish. That's the most important thing, to put on a good show for the fans."

Barron has history on his side for a trip to the Bombardier 500k victory lane. Both of his IRL IndyCar Series triumphs have come on high-banked ovals at Nashville and Michigan. Texas' 24-degree corners are the highest on the circuit.

"There are a lot of different ways to attack that track," continued Barron. "We are looking forward to testing at Texas right after the Indy 500 and working on the setup to do well in the race.

Tickets for the Bombardier 500k are on sale daily at the speedway ticket office, by calling (817) 215-8500, online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com and at Ticketmaster locations.
