KOBALT MECHANICS TOOLS 500K presented by MCI WORLDCOM Atlanta Motor Speedway Hampton, Georgia Practice Report -- Thursday, July 15, 1999

NOTES AND QUOTES:

Kelley Racing teammates Mark Dismore and Scott Sharp, both had strong runs in two practice sessions in preparation for the Kobalt Mechanics Tools 500K. Dismore and the MCI WorldCom team placed third overall in the first session with a fast lap of 215.045 mph. Teammate Scott Sharp came in fifth while touring the 1.5-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway oval at 213.953 mph in the #28 Delphi/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car. In the second practice of the day, Dismore turned in a lap speed of 214.960 mph and ended the day in fourth place. Sharp and the Delphi team finished in 10th with a speed of 214.141 mph. Although both teams are near the top of the speed charts, the primary focus for the Kelley Racing Team is winning Saturday night's race.

#8 Scott Sharp, Delphi Automotive Systems/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear --

"We started the day with a totally new untested setup. We made a handful of changes, and the car was pretty good. The Delphi car was really easy to drive, it was like being on a Sunday drive out there. I think we're going to have a great car for the race Saturday night."

#28 Mark Dismore, MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear -

"The MCI WorldCom car was pretty good, we have a good package, setup wise, to work with; both for the race and qualifying. We had a little understeer and a couple of other minor problems, but the MCI WorldCom team worked through it and we'll be in good shape to win our first Indy Racing League event here in Atlanta."

The Kobalt Mechanics 500K presented by MCI WorldCom is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) this Saturday, July 17. The race will be televised LIVE on Fox Sports Net. PPG Pole Qualifying can be seen on SpeedVision beginning at 6:00 p.m. (EDT), July 16. Check your local cable listings for accurate times.
