Andretti Green Racing concludes Homestead testing with Tony Kanaan.
Indianapolis, Ind. (January 9, 2003) -- Andretti Green Racing wrapped up its first pre- season test of 2003 at Miami-Homestead Speedway today by providing Tony Kanaan with his first opportunity to test with the team since being named to the organization in the fall of 2002. Kanaan, driving a Dallara-Honda-Firestone completed 110 laps around the 1.5-mile speedway and was pleased with his first impression of the team's newest equipment.
"I'm happy," said Kanaan. "Michael (Andretti) gave me a good car to start off with. I felt really good about the day and I was pretty comfortable in the car from the start. I thought that I would have more trouble adapting to the Dallara, but it was surprisingly easy. It's my first test with Andretti Green Racing ever and I was very pleased with what we accomplished. I think we have a good starting point for the season."
This test marked only the second time AGR has had its 2003 Dallara on track. Dario Franchitti tested at Phoenix International Raceway on December 19-20 and like Andretti and Kanaan, Franchitti was very pleased with the new car. Team manager Tony Cotman knows AGR still has a lot to learn about the Dallara.
"We spent a large part of the day working on mechanical setup," said team manager Tony Cotman. "We worked with the shocks, springs, suspension geometry, things that we needed to experiment with in order to get more familiar with the car. We made some good changes and we made some bad changes but we did learn a lot. We're very happy with the Honda engine, the power seems good and we're looking forward to partnering with Honda this season. Overall the two days we spent here were very productive."
Andretti Green Racing, which is owned by Andretti, along with partners Kim Green and Kevin Savoree, will contest the 2003 Indy Racing League sanctioned IndyCar Series which gets underway on March 2 at Miami-Homestead.
