FORT WORTH-DALLAS (May 30, 2000) - It was a magical feeling two days ago for Al Unser, Jr., to be in the Indianapolis 500 after an absence of five years. And now, Little Al is looking for a winning hand when he lines up the #3 tickets.com car for the June 10 Casino Magic 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Unser, Jr., got his first look at the speedway today while he visited with members of the local media. "This place is beautiful," Unser, Jr. commented as he toured the facility. "The banking on the super speedway will produce some really good wheel-to-wheel racing. The leaders in races here run side-by-side, and that makes for a great show for everyone." Unser, Jr. is running a full season of races in the Indy Racing Northern Light Series with Galles ECR Racing. He won at Las Vegas in April and was running well on Sunday at the Indy 500 before he punctured his radiator after running over debris on the track. "It is pretty difficult to take a car that is pushing the envelope of technology to try to come up with a parity for everyone. But, I really think the Indy Racing Northern Light Series is doing the best job at this. I believe in this series, and really feel any of the cars that start the race in Texas has a shot to win it." Unser, Jr., the two-time Indy 500 winner (1992 and 1994), failed to qualify for the 1995 Indy 500 and then drove on the Championship Auto Racing Team (CART) series until this season, preventing him from competing at Indy. Rick Galles' decision to hire Unser, Jr., to drive this season put Little Al back at the Brickyard last weekend and brought back great memories. "It was wonderful feeling being there," Unser, Jr. said. "To miss it for so many years and then to come back and go around that race track with hundreds of thousands of fans was awesome." But Little Al admits a more awesome feeling is the one he gets by standing in victory lane, something he hopes to do at the Casino Magic 500. Tickets for the race are available by calling the Texas Motor Speedway ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500 or logging on to www.texasmotorspeedway.com .
