FORT WORTH, Texas, June 10, 1999 - Harrah's Entertainment Inc. (NYSE:HET) announced June 10 a three-year, exclusive multimillion-dollar agreement with A.J. Foyt Enterprises, Inc., becoming the first casino company to serve as a title sponsor in professional motorsports. Harrah's will be the exclusive sponsor of the No. 11 Billy Boat car in the Pep Boys Indy Racing League and will christen the car this weekend during the Longhorn 500 presented by MCI WorldCom at Texas Motor Speedway. The title sponsorship signifies a new level of commitment in Foyt Racing from Harrah's. The casino company has had limited sponsorship of two Foyt Racing vehicles - including Boat's - since March. "I couldn't be happier to extend our collaboration," Foyt said. "Winners should always run with winners, and this relationship is a real shot in the arm for our racing team." Boat took the checkered flag at the Longhorn 500 last year and expects to make a strong showing again this weekend. He qualified in the front row and placed third at this year's Indianapolis 500, won by Kenny Brack, also a Harrah's-sponsored driver for the Foyt racing team. "I'm glad to have Harrah's in our corner," Boat said. "They've lent a lot of support during the past several months, and I know they'll continue to play a big part in our success. This relationship enhances our chances of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League championship again." Boat, one of only four league drivers to earn $1 million during the 1998 season, won a league-record six PPG Poles last year, including the Indianapolis 500. Boat, from Phoenix, also set a league record in 1998 with four consecutive PPG Poles. "We're excited about furthering our relationship with Foyt Racing and Billy Boat," said Gary Loveman, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Harrah's. "Our association has produced wonderful results, and I'm looking forward to sharing many future successes on and off the track." Details of the sponsorship include prominent Harrah's logos on Boat's cars and uniforms, as well as personal appearances by members of A.J. Foyt Racing at different Harrah's casinos across the country. Harrah's Entertainment, the most recognized and respected name in the casino entertainment industry, operates 18 casinos nationwide under the Harrah's, Showboat and Rio brand names, and Star City casino in Sydney, Australia. Among Harrah's primary markets are Las Vegas, home to the Pep Boys Indy Racing League Las Vegas 500K; Shreveport, La., in close proximity to Dallas-Fort Worth and Texas Motor Speedway; Cherokee Smoky Mountains, driving distance from Lowe's Motor Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway; and Atlantic City, near Dover Downs International Speedway. Founded more than 60 years ago, Harrah's is focused on building brand loyalty and brand value with its targeted customers through a unique combination of great service, excellent products, unsurpassed distribution, operational excellence and technology leadership.
