Matsuura Starts 12th; Meira Just Behind in 13th
SONOMA, Calif. (August 25, 2007) -- Saturday came to a close at Infineon Raceway with Panther drivers Kosuke Matsuura and Vitor Meira qualifying 12th and 13th, respectively, and the team's Indy Pro Series driver Hideki Mutoh finishing 19th in the first of two IPS races.
Mutoh had moved as high as seventh, but contact with Brazilian driver Jamie Camara in turn 11-a, which left Hideki outside the rumble strips and he required assistance from the Delphi safety team and caused Panther's Japanese driver to lose a lap in the process.
The Motorola Indy 300 at Infineon Raceway will be broadcast live on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. with additional coverage provided by the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio channels 144 and 145.
"We were a little off on qualifications and I made one mistake during the run that didn't help us. We should have been about 10th because the team made some good improvements in the morning that helped. We'll see, we're going to change a few things in the Delphi car tomorrow, so we'll take it careful in the race and make sure we pick up as many positions as possible."
"The car is so much better than yesterday. I would like to thank the team for working so hard last night. I am confident that I will be able to do well tomorrow so I am looking forward to the race."
"We were able to find out the cause of the problems I had yesterday so the car was very good today. I was able to run well in the warm up and also was able to set the fastest lap time in the race today so other than my race result, I am happy with today. It would've been better if I was able to finish the race in better position but I rather attack in the race, then stay in the same position all through the race. I will be more careful when trying to pass in the race tomorrow but will do my best to move up to the front."
