FIRESTONE INDY 400 FACTS

-- The Firestone Indy 400 on July 27 will be the 1003rd and 1004th starts all-time for car owner Roger Penske with his two drivers Helio Castroneves and Gil de Ferran. Entering the 2003 race, Penske cars have started 101 total races at MIS with 19 different drivers. Penske has nine wins, 13 poles and four wins from the pole at MIS. At least one Penske car has been entered at least one car in every IndyCar race at MIS since 1971.

-- Rick Mears has the most starts for Roger Penske at MIS with 23, followed by Al Unser with 10, Emerson Fittipaldi, Danny Sullivan and Tom Sneva all with eight and Bobby Unser and Al Unser Jr with seven.

-- When Tomas Scheckter rolled in MIS victory lane in last year's Firestone Indy 400, he wasn't the only Scheckter to win a race at MIS. His Father Jody Scheckter -- a Formula One great -- won the Formula 5000 race on the MIS road course in 1973.

-- Sarah Fisher's seventh place finish in last year's Inaugural IRL race at MIS is the best finish for a woman in open-wheel competition at MIS. Fisher also led four laps in last years race and is the only woman to lead a lap at MIS in open-wheel cars. Janet Guthrie finished 13th in 1976 in her only open-wheel start at MIS. The third woman to run an open-wheel race at MIS was Lyn St. James. Her best finish was17th in 1995.

-- Roger Penske is the only car owner in MIS history to have all three drivers finish 1-2-3 in a race. In 1980, Mario Andretti finished first, Bobby Unser second and Rick Mears third as the Captain swept the podium that day.

-- Open-wheel legend Bobby Unser will return to MIS next weekend to be part of many of the festivities surrounding the Jackson RaceWeek Festival and the Firestone Indy 400. In honor of MIS' 35th anniversary, the pole sitter for the Firestone Indy 400 will receive the Bobby Unser pole award and will be presented by Unser himself. Unser holds the record for most all-time open-wheel poles at MIS with seven. Unser's poles came in July 1971, July 1972, July 1973, July 1974, July 1979, September 1979 and July 1980. Additionally, Unser was the first driver to break the 200 mph barrier at MIS -- in July 1973 - with a speed of 204.487.

-- Only two drivers have won back-to-back open-wheel races at MIS. Bobby Unser captured two in a row in July and September of 1979 and Mario Andretti was victorious in July and September of 1984. Can Tomas Scheckter join this elite group this year?

-- Five drivers have won the Indy 500 and gone on to win a race at MIS in the same year- Johnny Rutherford did it in 1980, Gordon Johncock in 1982, Bobby Rahal in 1986, Rick Mears in 1991 and 2000, Juan Pablo Montoya in 2000. Can this year's Indy 500 winner Gil de Ferran add to the list of five with a win in the Firestone Indy 400?

-- This year's Firestone Indy 400 at Michigan International Speedway will be the 52nd IndyCar race in the track's storied 35-year history.

SEARS 200 FACTS

-- Now a NASCAR Winston Cup Series rookie, Greg Biffle won the first two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races at MIS for car owner Jack Roush.

-- Chevrolet should pay attention. With Robert Pressley's win in last year's Sears 200 gave Dodge its first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win at MIS. Chevrolet is the only manufacturer without a win in Craftsman Truck Series competition at MIS.

-- Last year's Craftsman Truck Series race at MIS was the eighth closest race in series history as Robert Pressley nipped Jason Leffler at the line by a mere 0.102 seconds.

-- The K-automotive race team owned by Bob and Kay Keselowski and based out of Lake Orion, Michigan, will make its 200th NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start in the Sears 200. The team's best finish at MIS was last year's sixth place finish for Sylvania, Ohio driver Terry Cook.

-- Sarah Fisher isn't the only woman expected to participate in the July weekend at MIS. Tina Gordon will look to qualify and be the only woman to run in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at MIS.

--There are five different drivers who are expected to compete in the Sears 200 that have NASCAR Winston Cup experience at MIS. The list includes, Jason Leffler, Ted Musgrave, Bobby Hamilton, Mike Skinner and last years winner Robert Pressley.
