Rain has subsided; however the clouds hover over the Michigan International Speedway. Track is currently being dried especially in turn two where a small river remains. Schedule is being revised. Next up will be the first timed session for the Infiniti Pro Series. This will be the new series first time on track at MIS.
Earlier this morning the Indy Racing League made its debut at MIS with two groups. In the first group, Tomas Scheckter of Cheever Racing set the fast time at 221.087 mph. In the second group Scheckter's boss and teammate Eddie Cheever Jr. set the fastest time of the combined session at 221.233 mph while Buddy Rice in the third Cheever Racing team car set the second quickest time at 221.179. The results placed the three team cars fastest overall in session one.
The Craftsman Truck qualifying has been canceled and the starting line up will be by points. The series will have one practice session this afternoon and then Happy Hour in the evening.
Update: 11:55 am
MIS sees more rain. Just as the track was starting to dry, the rain arrived again -- heavier this time. Schedule will be revised once the officials determine time allowances taking into consideration track drying time and possible future precipitation.
The predicted rain for Friday in the Jackson/Brooklyn Michigan area finally came in a sudden downpour within the first 10 minutes of the Craftsman Truck practice. An earlier light rain came at the end of the first Indy Racing practice session. Rain is expected to ease off; however, the time to dry the track at Michigan International Speedway will delay further on track activity.
