Milka Duno's press conference announcing her 11 race Indycar Series schedule was the must attend event on Friday afternoon as the conference room at Homestead-Miami Speedway overflowed with journalists and representatives from her sponsor. Citgo held a celebration and cocktail reception Friday evening at the Mandarin Oriental Miami.

After retiring from the cockpit, Pancho Carter has worked as a spotter for Sam Hornish at Panther and more recently for Marty Roth. He has also fielded USAC teams for his sons Dane and Cole. During Friday's USAC Silver Crown race, Carter was back atop the tower with the spotters once again but this time his was working as the USAC Official assigned to the spotter's area. Carter said he was filling in for someone and didn't expect the position to be permanent.

Former IndyCar Series competitor Raul Boesel was among the interested spectators in the paddock on Friday. Boesel is competed in a stock car series in Brazil last year.

For IndyCar Series official timing and scoring purposes the track length is set at 1.485 miles.

With 15 rookies in the field of 26 Indy Pro Series competitors, there were a few glitches during the first practice session. Ken Losch was one of two drivers who had trouble finding the speedway. He toured the infield road course before entering the oval at the exit of Turn 2. Shane Lewis elected to tour the infield too but later admitted he did so after noticing his belts were not fastened.

Kevin Greeno painted the RLR/Anderson Racing Indy Pro Series cars of Andrew Prendeville and Joey Scarillo. In the '80s, Greeno was better known as one half of the wrestling team The Sensations. Greeno, who was also known as Mr. America during his wrestling career, paints the retaining walls at the St. Peterburg, Fla. Grand Prix.

Toyota has increased their involvement with USAC, announcing Friday that they will become title sponsor of the "Night Before the 500" at O'Reilly Raceway Park. The "Toyota USAC Night Before the 500" will be held May 26.

On Friday, the green flags used to start the IndyCar practice sessions were emblazoned with the Ethanol logo. The season opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway marks the first time that a full field of competitors will be fueled by 100% Ethanol.

Former CART and IndyCar Series owner John Della Penna is involved with the Ganassi's Indy Pro Series program. He's been working with the spotters keeping a keen eye on Argentinean driver Pablo Perez.

Friday marks the 10th anniversary of Jim Guthrie's lone IndyCar Series victory at Phoenix. Guthrie, who was Rookie of the Year in 1997, now fields a two car Indy Pro Series team with his son Sean aboard the No. 4 Guthrie Racing Car Crafters Special.
