DREYER & REINBOLD RACING IS READY FOR THE IOWA CORN 250
Indianapolis, IN (June 17, 2010) - After a much-needed break, the Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team has regrouped and is prepared for the eighth round of the IZOD IndyCar Series this weekend in Newton, Iowa. The team is looking forward to getting back to familiar ground as they will be visiting Iowa Speedway for the fourth time and finished 6th and 8th there last year. Piloting the DRR machines for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 will be Brit Justin Wilson in the No. 22 Charter entry and, new addition to the team, American Graham Rahal, who will be driving the No. 24 Dad's Root Beer car.
Justin Wilson has gained a lot of confidence on the ovals and is ready to complete the first oval stint this weekend in Iowa. This year will mark Justin Wilson's third time to compete at Iowa Speedway. He finished 12th in his first start at the track in 2008 after starting 20th. In 2009, contact ended his day early after starting tenth.
So far this season, Wilson has two 2nd place finishes under his belt. Since joining the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2008, Wilson has recorded six top-10 finishes (2008: Kansas-9th, Milwaukee-7th, Richmond-7th, 2009: Chicagoland-10th, Homestead-10th, 2010: Indianapolis--7th) on ovals. He has led on an oval twice. The first time was for five laps at Kansas in 2008 and just recently at the Indianapolis 500 for 11 laps. For the 2010 Indianapolis 500, he had an extremely strong performance where he started 11th, led for 11 laps and finished the highest in his Indy 500 career in 7th position. Wilson's best qualifying position on an oval was 8th position at Kentucky in 2009. To date, Wilson has had a strong showing with his new team. The veteran earned DRR's best result since team co-owner, Robbie Buhl, won in 2000 at Walt Disney World Speedway, as he came home with a 2nd place result for the organization in St. Petersburg, Florida in the IZOD IndyCar Series second round. Wilson has also qualified on the second row three times this year (Brazil-3rd, St. Petersburg-4th, Long Beach-3rd). He currently sits seventh in the championship with 179 points, just 67 behind points leader Dario Franchitti.
The team announced last week that Graham Rahal will replace the injured Mike Conway this weekend at Iowa. The American was the sensible choice for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing as he had a great showing at this year's Indianapolis 500 and has experience at Iowa Speedway. Also, he was the perfect fit to drive the team's Dad's Root Beer custom designed HOT WHEELS® car, which will be driven during the Iowa Corn 250 on Father's Day.
This will be Rahal's first time to drive for the team and his third time to compete at Iowa Speedway. In his previous two starts at the track he started 10th and finished 11th.
