Dixon Sixth, Franchitti 18th at Iowa
NEWTON, Iowa (June 21, 2010) -- Team Target ran strong throughout most of the Iowa Corn Indy 250 in Round 8 of the IZOD IndyCar Series at Iowa Speedway with Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon running in the top-five through the beginning stages of the race. The Target cars ran one-two for a portion of the event, with the two drivers swapping positions for the lead.
Dixon had a solid qualifying effort and lined-up on the outside of row one. He led 21 laps and ran in the top-four until the final laps of the race and finished sixth.
Franchitti started from the fifth position and dominated the early stages of the race -- leading a race-high 69 laps of the 250 lap event - but a gearbox problem during his final stint would end his day early with an 18th-place result.
- Dixon extends his record of most consecutive top-10 starts to 40.
- The race marked Dixon's fourth top-10 at Iowa and the sixth top-10 at the track for Target Chip Ganassi Racing.
With the finishes, Dixon moves to second in the championship with 263 points - just 11 points behind leader Will Power. Franchitti sits third in the championship with 260 points -- 14 points out of the top spot.
Scott Dixon: "I think we did alright today but we weren't able to maximize points. After 40 laps we saw a lot of tire wear for some reason and I just got a ton of understeer. It was a shame but we managed to stay in the points mix."
Dario Franchitti: "I was leading at the time and the gearbox went. I was shifting from sixth down to fifth and came up with a box full of neutrals. We had a winning car today, but it wasn't anybody's fault. The Target team did a great job today. These things just happen."
