The race was halted for storms at lap 71 of the 248-lap race. It will resume from lap 72, on the evening of Saturday, August 27, around 7pm.

“It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t finish the race this weekend due to the weather conditions,” said Jay Frye, IndyCar president of competition and operations.

“Everyone at IndyCar and Texas Motor Speedway is committed to putting on a great show when we return on Aug. 27.

"So what we will do, per our rulebook, is to start the race from where we stopped. We'll come in, have a practice, do an autograph session, run the race that night continuing from where we left off, with the intent of getting an entire race in for our fans and the fans here at Texas Motor Speedway."

Track president Eddie Gossage added: "We felt like that was the best way to best serve all our fans. We maybe could have hung around and try to get it dry tonight and run enough to get halfway [whereby the race could be called with full points distributed], but that's not right. We want to give the fans a full race. That's the plan."

Schmidt Peterson Motorsport’s James Hinchcliffe will start from pole, followed by Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport), Mikhail Aleshin (SPM), Will Power (Team Penske) and Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing).

Frye described it as “unlikely” that the wrecked Josef Newgarden and Conor Daly will be allowed to make up the 29 laps they failed to complete following their shunt.

This rearrangement will slot Texas in as 14th race in the 16-race schedule right after Pocono, and just ahead of Watkins Glen, before the season finale at Sonoma Raceway.
