London, UK – Monday 29th August - British IndyCar driver Mike Conway suffered with high levels of tyre wear during Sunday's Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma which left him unable to maximise his strong performance in qualifying.

Conway led the way for the Andretti Autosport team on Saturday by posting the seventh quickest time of the 28-strong field. Lining up on the fourth row, Conway maintained his P7 position heading into the first corner. The Brit kept sixth placed Hinchcliffe in sight right up to lap 23 when he pitted for new tyres.

Once everyone had pitted, Conway was running in P11. Struggling with tyre wear, Conway spent the next twenty laps fending off an ever-present Servia. On lap 50 Conway made a late pitstop in an attempt to make a late charge through the field.

Rejoining in P16, Conway then passed Sato for P15 and was lining up the fourteenth placed car when the track was put under a full caution for Tung’s accident.

On the final lap, Conway made a move on Saaverda for P15, but the Colombian made contact with the @followandretti car which knocked Conway off the track and caused a puncture to his tyre. Conway crossed the finish line in P16.

“We were running P7 for the first part of the race but the tyres really went off quickly. I spent most of the race just trying to keep the car on the track and maintaining my position, rather than being able to challenge for the positions ahead. Things picked up a bit on the last set of tyres, I was able to drive hard and was passing people. On the final lap, I tried the outside of turn two but Saavedra made contact with me which knocked me off the track and punctured my tyre;" commented Mike Conway.

“We now head to Baltimore for the first time. I visited the track a couple of weeks ago and it looked great so I’m looking forward to racing there for the first time next weekend;” continued Conway.
