Firestone Tire Performance Recap: Firestone Racing engineers brought an all-new primary tire specification to Toronto, paired with the same alternate that was used previously this year on the streets of Long Beach. The tires helped produce track-record lap times and proved to be consistently much quicker than last year. Justin Wilson set the fastest lap of the race on a set of used ("scuffed") alternate tires. (A chart of drivers' tire use in the race is attached.)
From race winner Dario Franchitti, #10 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "Every single restart was wild, and the marbles were really tricky. But it was a huge day for Team Target to have a 1-2 finish. I got my first pole here at this track in 1997 - I love racing in Canada. When we got the marbles cleaned off of the tires, the Firestones were really, really good. The performance of the blacks and reds was really similar today, and they were good till the end of a run - the car was at its best the last two laps of the race."
From Joe Barbieri, Manager, Firestone Racing: "We've seen some pretty crazy races in this Toronto track's 25 years of racing, but today has to be one of the craziest. I'm sure people will be talking about this one for a while. I'm pleased that Firestone Racing was able to add a bit to the spectacle that we saw today. The tires worked very well over the entire weekend, and today was no exception. Both specifications were consistent over the length of a run. Congratulations to Dario for his 30th win - I know it's been mentioned before, but each and every one of those wins has been on our tires!"
Firestone "Tire-ific" Move of the Race: This $10,000 prize is awarded after each IndyCar Series race to the driver best utilizing his or her Firestone tires to make a bold, dramatic move during the event. Nominees from today's race are: Dario Franchitti, for his turn three pass of Graham Rahal on lap 72; Ryan Hunter-Reay, who overcame a broken front wing early in the race to finish third; and Marco Andretti, for advancing from his 20th-place starting position to finish fourth. Fans can vote this week at www.indycar.com to determine the winner.
