RAIN IMPEDES PRACTICE AGAIN AT INDIANAPOLIS FOR VISION RACING

SPEEDWAY, Indiana -- Once again, it was mostly rain instead of race cars on the surface of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in preparation for the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500. Vision Racing drivers Ed Carpenter, A.J. Foyt IV and Davey Hamilton could only watch as the precipitation washed away the most of yet another opportunity to practice for the race.

Late in the afternoon the weather finally cooperated as a short period of yellow flag laps finally gave way to green flag conditions during the final hour of practice time.

A total of 29 cars took to the 2.5-mile oval including Carpenter drove the No. 20T Menards Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone for 21 laps and a top lap of 219.645 mph.

While Carpenter is not pleased with the weather and limited track time, he is at least breathing easier than his teammates as he was able to qualify in the 10th position for the race in the No. 20 Menards car on Saturday. He will be making his fifth Indianapolis 500 start.

Foyt also got on track behind the wheel of the No. 2 Vision Racing Honda powered Dallara. He turned just 14 laps and recorded a best lap of 219.530 mph.

Hamilton and his HP and Kingdom Racing Sponsored No. 22 machine did not make it on to the racing surface for practice today.

Both Foyt and Hamilton are forced to wait until this weekend to cement their starting spot after rain canceled Sunday's second qualifying opportunity.

Tomorrow's scheduled IndyCar Series practice time will begin at noon (ET) and run until six p.m.

92nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 (May 14, 2008) Quotes:

A.J. Foyt IV -- No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

Top Speed Today: 219.530 mph/40.9966 seconds
Top Speed for Month: 223.652 mph/40.2410 seconds (May 10th)

Total Laps Today: 14 laps
Total Laps for Month: 117 laps

Rank in Practice Today: 16th on speed chart
Overall Rank for Month: 19th on speed chart

On practice and weather:

"I'm not going to get too worried or get too frustrated because the way we unloaded the car on Opening Day, we had a basic race set up and we know what that felt like. We haven't been able to do full tank and long runs, but I think we still know what direction to go to. The one thing we can't control is Mother Nature so you might as well not get too upset or frustrated about it."

Ed Carpenter -- No. 20 Menards -- Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

Top Speed Today: 219.645 mph/40.9752 seconds
Top Speed for Month: 225.113 mph/39.9799 seconds (May 10th)

Total Laps Today: 21 laps
Total Laps for Month: 145 laps

Rank in Practice Today: 14th on speed chart
Overall Rank for Month: 11th on speed chart

Qualifying Position: 10th

On practice and weather:

"I'm going to guess that the trucks out there have done more laps than any Indy cars this month! I think we'll get some running in this week and all three cars will be focusing on the race. We'll certainly have plenty of tires. We've missed so much track time that we'll be using Saturday and Sunday to run as well when there are breaks in the qualifying line. I think you are going to see a lot of people taking advantage of as much track time as possible. You want to get out there when there are a bunch of other cars out there to run race set ups but when that track does goes green, with the limited amount of time we have had, I'm going to bet that everyone will be out there at the same time."

Davey Hamilton -- No. 22 The Computer is Personal Again/HP/Kingdom Racing -- Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

Top Speed Today: Did not practice
Top Speed for Month: 223.501 mph/40.2683 seconds

Total Laps Today: Did not practice
Total Laps for Month: 101 laps

Rank in Practice Today: Did not practice
Overall Rank for Month: 23th on speed chart

On practice and weather:

"This has been a very different week than I have ever had at Indy with all this rain and such short amount of track time. I guess the good thing is that it gives us plenty of time to do a lot of strategizing and we know where we want to be, and what we're going to do when we go out there. It's just a little frustrating to be honest with you, especially in my situation where I haven't had a lot of track time. Thank God I'm with this Vision team with guys that run full time, engineers that do this full time, so I'm ahead of the game a little bit. Hopefully the rest of the week will be clear, but we won't hold our breath just yet."
