RAIN WASHES OUT PRACTICE AT INDIANAPOLIS FOR VISION RACING
SPEEDWAY, Indiana - Scattered rain showers, typical of May in Indiana, washed out practice today for the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500. Track personnel worked tirelessly throughout the day to dry the track and at one point late in the afternoon all three Vision Racing cars were on the pit lane ready for practice, but once again rain showers soaked the 2.5-mile oval.
Team drivers Ed Carpenter, A.J. Foyt IV and Davey Hamilton will look to get in their respective cars again tomorrow afternoon in preparation for Saturday's first qualifying opportunity.
All three drivers were able to get on track yesterday for the first official day of practice. Carpenter was the quickest of the trio in his bright yellow No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone machine. He was 16th quick overall with a best lap of 222.633 mph.
In the Vision Racing No. 22 car sponsored by HP and Kingdom Racing, Hamilton was 22nd fastest with a top speed of 221.684 mph.
Driving the No. 2 Vision Racing Honda powered Dallara, Foyt was 24th quick and a top lap speed of 221.615 mph.
A.J. Foyt IV - No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We really could have used the track time today, but instead I did hang out at my grandfather's (A.J. Foyt) garage during parts of the rain delay because it's always pretty entertaining in there. Tomorrow doesn't look to good either, but we made some improvements from our first day on track that we're anxious to try out. I think we know the direction we want to go so long as we have at least Friday to try it out before qualifying on Saturday we should be fine."
Ed Carpenter - No. 20 Menards - Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"All I was really able to do today was put my race suit on and off a few times. It's disappointing to have it rain after we weren't real thrilled with our runs yesterday so I really wanted to get back out on track to see if we made any gains which I'm confident we have. Then again I wasn't really looking forward to running with the wind the way it was blowing out there. The rain pretty much made the decision for us. I'm going to head home early for my sister's birthday this evening and enjoy a little extra time with her."
Davey Hamilton - No. 22 The Computer is Personal Again/HP/Kingdom Racing - Vision
"Unfortunately it rained and we need the time on the track, but it's the same for everybody. We'll be pretty excited to get back on track after having decent speed yesterday, but since the three of us weren't completely comfortable with our cars, we went in three completely different directions so its very important for us to be on track but when the rains comes there isn't much you can do. We're pretty anxious to get back on track, let's put it that way, because we think we have a lot better cars than the first day."
