IndyCar Series Veteran Looks to Get Into the Show During Saturday's Pole Day Qualifications

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- (May 9, 2008) -- After what was only the second opportunity to turn laps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2.5-mile oval, Delphi National Guard driver Vitor Meira proved he will be a contender during Saturday's Pole Day qualifications. Meira turned the seventh-quickest lap during a rain-shortened "Fast Friday" practice at Indianapolis, and looks to better or match his qualification effort from 2006, when he started sixth on the outside of the second row.

Meira's quick lap was 224.811 mph, 40.0336 seconds.

Vitor Meira

"Man, our car is fast. The only issue we had is in turn one, where the car is pushing, but in the other three turns the car is great. On our fastest lap I even lifted a little in one, so I know we're going to be quick tomorrow. I don't know where we'll end up because there are a lot of quick cars out here, but we feel like we can get in the show tomorrow. It's always a fun day."

Pole Speed Prediction:

"I think it will be like last year; if you're in the 225 range, you're going to be on the money."
