Dixon Leads Rain-Shortened Final Practice

Front-row starter Dan Wheldon led the field Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during a rain-shortened "Carb Day", the traditional final practice before Sunday's 500-mile race, with Honda supplying engines to the entire 33-car starting field for the third consecutive season.

Sporadic rain showers fell all day at the Speedway, with drivers and teams completing only 11 minutes of a scheduled one-hour practice session before additional precipitation caused series officials to cancel the remainder of the day's on-track activities. As a result several drivers, including front-row qualifier Ryan Briscoe, ran only one or two slow warm-up or installation laps before the rain returned.

Honda-powered drivers have turned a total of 12,135 laps this month (30,337.5 miles) in practice and qualifying. The 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500 starts at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday, May 25, with live television coverage on ABC. The forecast for Sunday calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s.

Weather: Overcast, showers, cool, 61 degrees F
