DREYER & REINBOLD RACING SIGNS TOMAS SCHECKTER FOR THE INDIANAPOLIS 500
Indianapolis, IN (April 23, 2010) - Dreyer & Reinbold Racing announced today that South African driver, Tomas Scheckter, will drive the team's No. 23 car as a third entry for the 94th running of the Indianapolis 500.
Scheckter came on board with DRR last year competing at ten races for the team. He earned three top-ten finishes (6th- Iowa, 8th - Chicago, 9th- Miami). This year will mark his ninth time to compete in the famed event. Scheckter started on the fourth row of the Indianapolis 500 for his first seven races until 2009, when he qualified 26th, but finished 12th. His best result was 4th with Ganassi Racing in 2003. He also ranks 5th among active drivers in most laps led at Indy with 148 laps (behind Wheldon, Castroneves, Dixon and Kanaan). Scheckter also ranks 37th all time in laps led at Indy and has completed 1,292 laps in competition at Indy.
"We are excited to have Tomas join our team for the Indy 500. He did a great job for us last year and we are extremely happy that we were able to work something out with him for this event," stated Dennis Reinbold, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing co-owner.
"I'm really happy to be back with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and to be working with Larry Curry again. I feel at home. We had a great Indy test at the end of last year and I feel that the momentum that the team has built on the road/street courses with Mike and Justin we can carry that on to the ovals. Also, having Justin as my teammate last year at Indy, we worked very well together. Dennis and Robbie have been very supportive of getting this done and feel like we have a chance to do great things this year at the speedway," commented Scheckter.
