Hunter-Reay 'surprised' by practice crash

Ryan Hunter-Reay has crashed during the opening IndyCar practice session at Texas Motor Speedway.

Ryan Hunter-Reay, 11th on the speed charts at 214.170mph, has crashed during the opening practice session at Texas Motor Speedway. He was in race trim at the time of the incident.

"I just got up into dirty air," said the Andretti Autosport driver. The car got out of the groove in turn two before spinning backwards into the wall, suffering major rear end damage. The Honda rolled back down the track and hit the inside wall before coming to a stop.

"I started to go up to the top to the second lane and the front just grabbed and sent it loose. It surprised me, complete surprised me." he explained.

"I think that is the first time I have been into the wall with the DW12 on an oval. It was a surprise, I don’t know what to think of it yet."
