Ryan Brisco

Ryan Briscoe and Will Power led a Team Penske 1-2 sweep of opening IZOD IndyCar Series practice Friday, in preparation for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Long Beach. Defending race winner Ryan Hunter-Reay finished third fastest on the day, with veteran Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver Scott Dixon rounding out the top four.

Alex Tagliani put in a strong showing for the revamped Sam Schmidt Motorsports team, with the fifth-fastest time on Friday, followed by Helio Castroneves, sixth in his Team Penske Honda. Action at the classic Southern California street circuit continues Saturday with Firestone “Fast Six” knockout qualifying. Sunday’s 85-lap race starts at 4:30 p.m. EDT, with live television coverage on Versus.

Ryan Briscoe (#6 Team Penske Honda) quickest in Friday practice: “I love this track. It’s a great event and I’m glad we come here. We’re certainly working hard to get speed out of the car. I haven’t won here yet and this is certainly one I want to win. It’s great to end the day on top.”
