Justin pleased with 6th in Homestead qualifying
Justin will start from 6th on the grid in the No. 22 Z-Line Designs car at Saturday night's Cafes do Brasil Indy 300 after setting a 2-lap average speed of 211.630 mph in qualifying at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Chip Ganassi Racing's Dario Franchitti took pole position (213.187 mph) with his team-mate Scott Dixon alongside him on the front row. Justin's Dreyer & Reinbold team-mate, Ana Beatriz, qualified 15th in the No. 24 Roll Coater entry (210.715 mph).
During the first practice session the No. 22 car was loose, the oversteer particularly prominent in the transitions on and off the banking. With the 14th fastest time, it seemed unlikely that Justin would be in a position to trouble the front runners during qualifying, but a few set-up tweaks were enough to allow him to run the critical low line and secure a career-high oval starting position.
"Today was great," said Justin. "We kept working on the car and got it perfect for qualifying. I'm really happy with what the guys did and I enjoyed driving the Z-Line Designs car. I just rode the white line all the way around and I think it's a great start to the weekend. Now, we're just trying to keep that going for the race and to make sure that we have a good car in traffic. Ideally, we're going to try and get a top-six result as well. That would finish the season on a high and be great for everyone at Dreyer & Reinbold Racing."
