Harvey and Claman De Melo to test for SPM at Mid-Ohio
Jack Harvey and Zacharay Claman De Melo will test Schmidt Peterson Motorsports-Hondas in tomorrow’s IndyCar test at Mid-Ohio.
Also participating will be Robin Frijns (Andretti Autosport), Felix Rosenqvist (Chip Ganassi Racing) and RC Enerson (Dale Coyne Racing), as the young guns get tested in the big cars.
Mikhail Aleshin will shake down the two SPM cars before Claman De Melo takes over driving duties in the #7 and Harvey in the #5.
Claman De Melo is an Indy Lights rookie with Juncos Racing, SPM’s fierce rival in the series, and his best results this year have been three top five finishes.
Harvey, by contrast, is well known to SPM having raced for Sam Schmidt’s squad the past two years, both times finishing runner-up in the Lights championship, and accumulating six wins.
The Briton commented: "I'm really looking forward to getting back in an Indy car this week. "It's been a tough year but that's what makes the return to driving all the better. Mid-Ohio is a track I've done well at before so I'm hopeful that I can help the team with their testing plan moving forward. Thank you to SPM for giving me this opportunity and I can't wait to get started."
Canada’s Claman De Melo stated: "We have put a great deal of off-track preparation into my first IndyCar test. Sam Schmidt and his team are meticulous about introducing a driver to IndyCar, from fitting myself into the car, talking to engineers, going over the simulator, down to being physically and mentally fit for the challenge.
“Everyone at SPM is professional and I am thrilled that I have this opportunity with such an elite organization. I would like to thank IndyCar and SPM for believing and trusting in my abilities to perform at this level."
