Friday practice update: Power, Bell breach 231mph
Things have really picked up at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
As expected, Fast Friday is living up to its moniker with teams taking full advantage of the additional power. And for the first time this week, Honda isn't topping the charts.
Two hours into six hours of scheduled practice and it's currently the Team Penske Chevrolet of Will Power setting the pace after putting up a fast lap of 231.476mph. He leads a train of Andretti Autosport Hondas who are currently locking out the rest of the overall top five.
However, that lap did not come without the assist of a draft. Power's truly impressive time was 231.339mph, which he did without a draft.
In fact, Power and Townsend Bell are the only two drivers with speeds exceeding 231mph, which they did in both tow and no-tow conditions.
Nine drivers have cracked 230mph, but only five have managed to do it without assistance.
All 33 cars have gotten on track, including Spencer Pigot, who crashed his primary car on Wednesday and consequently missed out on Thursday's track time. Gabby Chaves, who was quickest overall yesterday, was the last driver to post a time.
Sage Karam has run the most laps so far with 31 on the board.
