Foyt set to confirm drivers and new team manager

Texas-based Honda-powered team remains committed to two-car entry

AJ Foyt Racing will soon confirm three key personnel positions in its lineup for the 2016 IndyCar season – and two of those will be its drivers.

Yet most surprising will be the arrival of George Klotz as team manager. Klotz will be moving on from Andretti Autosport after 12 years with Michael Andretti’s organization under both its current and Andretti Green Racing banners. That period encompassed four IndyCar Series titles, and three Indy 500 victories.

Larry Foyt, president of AJ Foyt Enterprises and son of Indy car icon AJ, had recently admitted to that there would be “exciting announcements coming soon” and that in the management structure, that would entail “a big step forward for the team as we solidify our two-car structure.”

AJ Foyt Racing is the only IndyCar team based in Texas, but last year it renovated a 42,000 sq. ft building in Speedway, Ind., to use as a race shop during the Verizon IndyCar Series season.

The lineup for those two cars is expected to remain the same as in 2015. Takuma Sato, who won the 2013 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, will enter his fourth season with the Honda-powered team, having scored a best finish of second this past season. Series sophomore Jack Hawksworth is also close to re-signing, and Larry Foyt recently described the Briton as “promising, fast and unlucky but a great addition to the team.”

Foyt also confirmed the team’s commitment to remaining at two cars. "It makes more economic sense for us," he said.
