DREYER & REINBOLD RACING QUALIFIED 9th AND 12th FOR THE HONDA INDY EDMONTON
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (July 24, 2010)- Dreyer & Reinbold Racing continued their strong performance today at the Edmonton City Centre Airport track. Justin Wilson, pilot of the No. 22 Z-Line Designs machine, qualified 9th for the Honda Indy Edmonton. His teammate, Tomas Scheckter, pilot of the No.24 MonaVie car, will start 12th for tomorrow's event.
Today's session didn't exactly go the way Justin Wilson had planned. The Brit diligently chipped away all weekend and was working to find the right pieces to make it into the Firestone Fast Six today. After surviving the extremely difficult group one session, he advanced to the top- 12. Although the car felt great, unfortunately, the No. 22 machine was one and a half tenths off the pace needed for a place in the top-6. This will be the third time that Wilson has not made it into the Firestone Fast Six and the first time this season that Dreyer & Reinbold Racing has not advanced to the Firestone Fast Six as well. He has qualified in every Firestone Fast Six since 2008, except for two (2009 Edmonton, 2010 Barber), which makes a total of 15 Firestone Fast Six Qualifying sessions he has advanced to. Wilson will start 9th (1:01.5887 seconds, 115.326 mph) on the grid for tomorrow's race.
Tomas Scheckter had another solid run in qualifying. The South African diligently worked to make it into the top-12 and he did. Unfortunately, he was unable to advance to the Firestone Fast Six, but he feels extremely confident about the race and will have two sets of Firestone Firehawk Alternate (red sidewall) tires to use for tomorrow's event. Scheckter will start 12th (1:02.8751, 112.967 mph). Last year marked Schecker's first start at the Edmonton circuit. He started in 16th place, but contact ended his day early and he finished 19th.
What they have to say:
Justin Wilson, No. 22 Z-Line Designs: "The Z-Line Designs car was quick and I would have thought I was running P2 if the crew hadn't told me my lap times and position. I lost a bit of rear grip on my final two laps and unfortunately we missed the Firestone Fast Six by a couple of tenths. I think we have a good race car for tomorrow and will go over the data tonight and work out a game plan for the race. I'm looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully we can pick up positions throughout the race."
Tomas Scheckter, No. 24 MonaVie: "Today was a lot better. Considering the fact that I have only been on road courses for about four or five days this year, we definitely are getting better and developing the car and getting the time that we need. We didn't want to do any more so after we made the top-12 we saved two sets of the Firestone Firehawk Alternate (red sidewall) tires. I'm really pleased with the MonaVie car and it really seems to suit the Firestone Firehawk "red" tires, so I'm really looking forward to tomorrow."
