Simona de Silvestro will race for the Andretti Autosport team in a fifth entry at this year’s Indianapolis 500, following her one-off deal to drive at St. Petersburg last weekend.
The 26-year-old Swiss will compete alongside Andretti regulars Ryan Hunter-Reay, Carlos Munoz and Marco Andretti, as well as Justin Wilson, who takes over the #25 entry piloted by de Silvestro at the IndyCar curtain raiser for both Indianapolis races.
The only female driver confirmed for the iconic 500-mile event so far, de Silvestro will participate in her fifth Indy 500 start driving the TE Connectivity-backed #29 car.
“I’m so excited to be reperesenting TE Connectivity at this year’s Indy 500,” said de Silvestro. “I will for sure have one of the best opportunities to win during the Month of May.”
“Simona did a great job for us in St. Pete and we are excited to add her as a fifth Andretti entry for the Indy 500,” added team boss Michael Andretti.
De Silvestro finished 18th on her IndyCar return at St. Petersburg, following on from a season spent pursuing a Formula 1 drive with the Sauber team.
