CHAMPCAR/CART: Zanardi Vancouver race notes

Alex Zanardi and the ...

Alex Zanardi and the #66 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard dropped out of the Molson Indy Vancouver after contact with the Turn Six tire wall on Lap 43 of 98 laps completed today. Zanardi started 23rd, picked up a spot in the order despite pitting on Lap 1 for a splash of fuel, and was running 21st when he lost control of his car entering Turn Six. He placed 24th in the final order.

Teammate Tony Kanaan and the #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard finished fourth today after starting 13th. Roberto Moreno picked up his second career victory and first of the season. Gil de Ferran was second, and Michael Andretti was third.

After a weekend off, the team returns to action Sept. 13-15 for the German 500 at the Eurospeedway in Lausitz, Germany.

"I was trying to downshift from fourth to second for Turn Six and just couldn't get it into gear. I tried third, and when it final got in gear, the rear wheels locked up and I lost the car. We hit the tire wall and that was it. It's a very disappointing way to finish the weekend. The car was good today after we struggled with it all weekend. I don't have much else to say. Let's see if racing in Europe will turn our luck around!"
