Vancouver, BC: Walker Racing teammates Gil de Ferran and Naoki Hattori were early retirements, with de Ferran spinning and hitting the wall on the 12th lap, while the rookie dropped out of the race after just four laps due to a jammed rear brake assembly.

Derrick Walker -Team Owner: "Vancouver. Mixed weekend, changing weather conditions made it a lack luster result for car 5. Early crash put us at the sidelines. Sad think is we are much better that we have looked but the numbers do no show it. Naoki, was snake bit, a rear brake master cylinder failed and locked up his rear brakes. But the good news is he gets stronger and is well on his way to a full recovery."

GIL de FERRAN # 5 Valvoline/Cummins/Walker Racing Honda Started 7th, finished 26th

"I was in a conservative mode at the start, there were still areas of standing water. It was very slippery coming out of the Fountain turn. I touched the throttle, and the back end came around, brushed the wall, and broke the suspension. A shame: it was a good car in the rain, and Goodyear has a good rain tire, so the race would have been interesting."

NAOKI HATTORI #15 Alpine/Walker Racing Honda Started 23rd, finished 27th

Naoki Hattori: His third start since the season opener a Homestead where he sustained a double compound fracture of the left leg during an opening lap accident, in the second turn of the first lap in a grinding collision with Al Unser Jr. Started 23rd, finished 27th (4 laps - brakes): "I don't know what happened: the rear brakes locked up and trying to break them free by towing the car did not work. We got back to the pits and they were fine. I went out again, and the same thing happened. So we decided to come in and not race the car to be safe."

Gil de Ferran: 4th today

"We're quite happy with today's effort. We lacked a little traction this morning, but (engineer) Bill Pappas made a couple of good changes for qualifying, and I think the increased temperatures helped us as well."

Naoki Hattori: 16th today, his best qualifying run since breaking his leg at Homestead.

" Every change we made to the car today improved it. The biggest thing a had to do was adjust to the increased grip when we put on fresh tires. Now we must go faster tomorrow."
