Walker Racing Announces Two Champ Car World Series Entries For 2005 Season
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - - March 18th, 2005 - - Walker Racing announces its plans to compete for the full 2005 Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford season, expanding to a two-car Lola lineup starting at the first event in Long Beach California on 10th of April. Walker Racing enters its fifteenth season and is not only changing to the Lola chassis, but is also increasing its effort to become a two car team again after running a single car in 2004.
Piloting car #15 will be the Canadian star from Montreal Quebec, Alex Tagliani who starts his fifth season in the Series. Tagliani scored his first Champ Car World Series victory last season with a win in Elkhart Lake, and has earned 10 podium finishes in his 91 series starts. He will be joined on the Walker squad by Queensland, Australia rookie Marcus Marshall, driving Car #5. Marcus who has competed in several European formulae ranging from Formula Renault to F3 and of late Carrera Cup, now makes his home at Walker Racing.
"I am really excited about this whole deal and to be racing in Champ Car because this is really where I wanted to be," Tagliani said. "Derrick has a well-established team here and a team that is very motivated to do well. We won't have a lot of testing time before Long Beach but that could be an advantage, because we will have more days to use during the year. This is a team with a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to the year."
The most immediate plan for both drivers will be their participation in a two-day "shakedown" test session at Sebring International Raceway on the 23rd / 24th March 2005. Said team owner Derrick Walker: "It's a big thanks to the team for working real hard to ramp up in the time we have left, needless to say I am really happy to welcome Alex and Marcus to our organization. I have to give Team Rahal a special thanks for their assistance to us in adapting to the Lola chassis"
Walker continues, "Media speculation had us gone from the series and closing our doors but the reality is we have had the elements of our two car multi-year commitment for nearly two months now. It takes time to find new sponsor partners. This commitment is clearly an indication of how the series is gaining strength and the renewed interest of companies in the future of the Champ Car World Series."
Today's announcement is only a part of the Walker Racing 2005 plans During the next two weeks there will be further exciting announcements made regarding Walker Racing's sponsor partners.
