Herdez-backed driver Memo Gidley achieved his first point with the Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team, adding it to a total of 4 for this season, after finishing 11th in Cleveland and 12th in the Canadian races (Toronto & Vancouver). His teammate Michel Jourdain Jr. also gave a good performance, but unfortunately Jan Magnussen hit Michel's car, taking him out. Both drivers took different strategies, their first set of tires were rain tires and the second for Jourdain Jr. were slicks, meanwhile Gidley always used rain tires.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #19 Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "The first time that I spun, it was my mistake when I tried to overtake Pruett, the second time it was because the brake balance was mainly in the back and after running for several laps in the eighth position, Jan (Magnussen) hit me forcing me to retire. It was a shame, because we were running within the points. Also, I was penalized because my radio didn't work well for the pit stop and when I saw Andretti heading the boxes, I did the same, but the pits were closed, because of a yellow and I was knocked out before I could take the penalty."

Memo Gidley, Car #71 Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "My car was good in the wet and I tried to be smart under rainy conditions. I was conserving my tires, but the left rear was flat towards the end and I decided not to do an extra pit stop to not loose positions."
