For the first group of drivers in today's qualifying session, the weather was just like this morning's practice, only more so. Overcast skies with few, if any, sun breaks.

Group one consisted of Papis, da Matta, Carpentier, Tagliani, Blundell, Fernandez, Brack, Gidley, Servia, Nakano, Marques, Barron and Garcia. Garcia did not run in the morning practice.

Much of this session was lost because the engine of Carpentier's car expired on the track and it took some time to get the car moved in such a way as to avoid leaving oil over the track. After serving his eight minute penalty, he went out in the spare car and drove in a "spirited manner" to get a good lap time in it. He eventually swung the right rear tire into a wall and ended his day.

The session ended when Papis struck the wall coming out of turn 7 and stopped on the track.

Drivers who improved their times from yesterday's qualifying session were Papis, da Matta, Fernandez, Brack, Gidley, Tagliani and Servia. Barron did not run in this session.
