The weather for this morning's practice session, preparation for the final qualifying session this afternoon, was much better than yesterday. There was no rain and the sky overcast with occasional sun breaks.

The 75-minute practice session was slow to start. It lost its first ten minutes to red flags. The session started, the cars went out and Garcia spun and stalled his car the first time through turn 7. The session was restarted and stopped again right away, only to be stopped again when Moreno spun and stalled in turn 1.

For the first half of the session, Montoya set the pace with a 1:01.593. A few other driver (Tracy, de Ferran, Kanaan) managed to break into the 1:01s, but just barely. Then, da Matta knocked another third of a second off of Montoya's time.

With thirty minutes left, the session was stopped when Papis stuffed his car into the tire wall sideways at the exit of turn 1. After the session was resumed, he took out his spare car. With roughly ten minutes left, Barron, who returned to Champ Car racing this weekend, stopped the session when he drove his car into the tires in Turn 12. The session ended as it did yesterday, under a red flag when Vasser put his car into a tire wall.

A significant number of drivers put in lap times that were better than their qualifying times from yesterday, but no one improved on yesterday's top qualifying time. As would be expected, the practice times this morning were much lower than yesterday morning.

As in qualifying yesterday, Fittipaldi and Moreno drove their spare cars in this session, though Fittipaldi switched to his primary car by the end of the session.
