Vancouver, BC -- Defending Molson Indy Vancouver champion Mauricio Gugelmin (Hollywood PacWest Mercedes) is looking forward to defending his championship on the new temporary street circuit layout at Concord Pacific Place. He visited the new circuit during an Aug. 20 visit to Vancouver and came away very favorably impressed. The new layout features longer straightaways and increased opportunities for passing. FedEx Championship Series driver Greg Moore (Player's/Indeck Reynard Mercedes), a resident of nearby Maple Ridge, B.C., assisted in the design of the new circuit.

"They have done a great job," said Gugelmin, who earned his first career FedEx Championship Series victory at Vancouver last year. "People say to me, 'Don't you want to go back to the track you won on?' My reply is that the new track is such an improvement that everybody benefits. I think it is one of those places that is similar to Toronto. Brakes are going to be very important. You are going to need good brakes, a little bit more than you had on the old track because there are more braking areas which will generate more passing. Turn 8 is a good passing area and if you look at Turns 8, 9, 10 and 11, it is almost like an oval. You are going to see a lot of action in that area."
