Paul Tracy of Team KOOL Green claimed his series-leading third victory of the season and his second in succession when he captured the 2000 Molson Indy Vancouver before a crowd of 63,677 at Concord Pacific Place. Tracy (KOOL Honda Reynard), whose earlier victories had come at Long Beach and Road America, posted a 0.384-second triumph over Team KOOL Green teammate Dario Franchitti. Tracy took the lead on the 53rd of 90 laps when Franchitti's car stalled while exiting the pits. He held the advantage for the remainder of the event to become the first Canadian to drive to victory in the 11-year history of the Molson Indy Vancouver. Adrian Fernandez (Tecate/Quaker State/Patrick Racing Ford Reynard) finished third for his second consecutive podium finish. Tracy's victory moved him from sixth to second place in the battle for the FedEx Championship Series championship. He exited Vancouver six points (126-120) behind championship leader Michael Andretti (Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Ford Lola) of Newman/Haas Racing, while Fernandez stood third with 117 points.
